Kitchen of the week: Second Time Lucky for a holiday home flooded - Jules Lawrence Duffy and considered themselves lucky that their Jersey Shore, New Jersey, vacation home survived the hurricane Sandy 2012 with only the basement destroyed. But in January 2014, they received a call from a neighbor: the water flowed out of their kitchen. A pipe had burst a week earlier, and the kitchen was destroyed.
The couple began renovations, taking space on poles and creating a sparkling new dream kitchen. But six months after they had finished - and just a year after the first pipe break - five pipes burst and destroyed their newly renovated kitchen. So the couple had to start ...

They renovated most of the house, but had put off kitchen remodel for budgetary reasons. Before the first pipe burst, the kitchen has not been touched for about 40 years. "I painted the old oak cabinets with a deep navy blue and light green painted walls. Our children were young at the time, and we just wanted to celebrate the proximity to the beach, "said Jules.

After living with a light blue and navy green kitchen before the renovation, Jules wanted a different color palette. "I knew I wanted to go with neutrals of driftwood and then put color with accessories - navy blue, turquoise and coral some sounds, she said.

work plans around the perimeter are the standard thickness of 3cm, and the contrast of charcoal granite with all the bright colors. "It has a beautiful granite pattern in crystal that shines while the polished finish, it really sustainable, said Jules.
The island is full of storage all around. The sides have spaces for cooking hobs, trays and cutting boards. Cookware is placed under the island, and equipment cabinets without the side panel fronted stools provide a hidden storage. There's also a front panel of a dishwasher located in the area below the sink.
