BEFORE family owns 120 years, the house since 1999 and used it as both a full-time residence and as a holiday home. They renovated most of the house, but had put off kitchen remodel for budgetary reasons. Before the first pipe burst, the kitchen has not been touched for about 40 years. "I painted the old oak cabinets with a deep navy blue and light green painted walls. Our children were young at the time, and we just wanted to celebrate the proximity to the beach, "said Jules.

'I love my sink - it's so practical,' says the designer. It has a cutting board and colander that match inside to cut easily and cleaning.

The painting here by local artist Theresa Losa has a special meaning. "For years after Hurricane Sandy, everyone was still recovering and felt isolated. It was a moment of well-being that brought the community and made us feel as if everything was going to be OK. "The family took the painting to the event.
