Over 2 million passwords of users for social networking and messaging sites, including Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Twitter and LinkedIn were stolen and posted online, according to the BBC. The information was taken from computers that have been infected by malicious software keystroke logging, allowing hackers to gather information directly from the browser.
Security experts believe that the information was then published online by a criminal gang. Almost all passwords stolen with the malware were weak passwords, which means they did not understand a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters.
