AVG is better at finding and blocking viruses that McAfee -
Q: My computer guy says AVG is much more effective than McAfee. He claims he picks up and blocks the virus better. Is that true or not true
? A: That's a good question. If you go through the traditional performance, it is right , at least of all the independent tests that we rely on for our research. Our internal testing has shown that McAfee caught and blocked more viruses than AVG. And AV-Comparatives tests, an organization of independent antivirus tests, confirms our results, giving AVG only one star from two stars McAfee traditionally for their product Dynamic Test, which examines how the various components work together against viruses.
However, during the test this year, McAfee has done much worse in AV-Comparative tests, a score of zero to three stars for the first time in the history of the product. Part of the reason why it was ranked so low is because the software is designed to warn you about malicious web addresses you could visit, not block, which is one of the key elements for testing. The software also tends to be historically sensitive sites or security files and several blocks.
