Cortex i.t. Releases BackupAssist Add-On to backup Hyper-V
New solution designed to simplify and automate data protection features for Windows Hyper-V products , making Hyper-V more suitable for SMEs.
Cortex IT has released a new BackupAssist Hyper-V solution that automates the vital functions of data protection for products of Windows Hyper-V, simplifying processes and making Hyper V more viable for SMBs.
"At BackupAssist, our mission is to create the easiest backups possible on any Windows system," says Linus Chang, CEO of Cortex IT and lead developer of BackupAssist products. "You should not need a computer science degree to run a backup."
backups for Windows Hyper-V proved to be complicated and frustrating because of the limited drive imaging facilities provided by Microsoft to perform backup and restore operations. Safeguarding the usual image consists of a single VHD file of the host and no facilities to dig down into the VHD file, it is almost impossible to recover the VM Guest files without running one second backup for each VM guest individually.
"Most SMEs have three to five guest virtual machines on the host machine, but some have up to 20 or more. Creating a comprehensive daily backup for each of them manually could take someone an all night ... and you can imagine how it would perform restores, "says Linus." Our new Hyper-V solution needed to be fast, easy and very affordable. We achieved this by using the "granular technology "which makes it easy to dig down into a VHD file and quickly retrieve files from within."
With BackupAssist, all you need is a single pass of the host backup image to be able to recover any file you need from any Guest VM. We do not need a second backup of the VM Guest. Setup is accomplished with wizards, built-in programming and media rotations.
For the BackupAssist Hyper-V solution you'll need BackupAssist v5.4 ($ 249) and the new BackupAssist VM Granular Restore Console Add-on ($ 249).
