Kitchen of the week: A design led Fit Space for family life

Kitchen of the week: A design led Fit Space for family life - When Jane Powell, kitchen designer at the Roundhouse, on the creation of this food for Phoebe and Nick Bryans and their family, memory was well thought out. Phoebe had a clear vision of what she wanted, which was design-head with a slightly industrial feel, using stainless steel and bricks, said Jane. But in addition to thinking about the aesthetics, functionality and atmosphere of the space are crucial, too. "It had to be a relaxed family area, says Jane. "Friendly and warm, not clinical, and somewhere that reflects the personality of the family."

Phoebe came armed with a mood board images, and she and Jane have worked closely to develop the entire system. "His ideas were very on the pulse of current trends," says Jane. "A tear sheet, she presented an open shelf on an island, so we incorporated here.

The finished room is a beautiful lesson in contemporary design, but it has a wonderfully relaxed, sociable feel. It forms a beautiful and functional link between the other rooms in this space and can be admired from all sides. "We used an open and closed storage combination," said Jane, 'and a mix of textures, stainless steel timber, for this industrial atmosphere.
