StorageCraft roadmap to growth

StorageCraft roadmap to growth -

Founded in 2003, StorageCraft Technology Corp. provides backup, disaster recovery, system migration and data protection solutions. Matt Urmston, evangelist leader and director of product management, and Brad Thomas, Public Relations and Social Media Director, recently spoke with Channelpro-SMB Joel Zaidspiner about new products that are part of the company's roadmap for allowing their MSP partners to target large environments. This is an edited extract of the conversation

Channelpro-SMB :. Tell us about ShadowProtect SPX for Linux, released in April, and the cross-platform SPX ShadowProtect version released in July.

Matt Urmston

Matt Urmston: are products that we worked for a long time, and help us roll out our vision and direction. ShadowProtect SPX for Linux was our first introduction to the Linux world. We always target Linux as a barrier to move us in large environments. Windows is everywhere, but sometimes you run in these environments where there might be ... 50 windows servers and two or three Linux boxes, and we find that many of our partners are not even able to have the discussion because most end users are looking for that unique solution provider. [Now with] ShadowProtect SPX is really a multi-platform product with a single user interface [to] manage both my my Windows and Linux systems.

But what is really exciting is that ShadowProtect SPX was built from the ground with the intention to be managed remotely by our ShadowControl tester. So each endpoint that was being ShadowProtect execution has been delivering to the unit as MSP is running on their local site. ShadowControl 3.0 [released in July] is adding some management features

Channelpro-SMB.? And this is part of your roadmap

Urmston: This is really just our entry into the management side of it. We plan to extend this management functionality. ShadowControl 3.0 offers the ability to create a backup strategy. Today, the way it works is that we install ShadowProtect on an endpoint, and we set up a backup task for this criterion. And then we move to the next and the next. We see that our partners, especially those growing in large environments, it becomes quite expensive for them to have a technician onsite to install and configure a basic one by one these backup jobs.

ShadowControl [enables] a single backup policy. And as an end point that is running ShadowProtect supports SPX ShadowControl this unit, it will automatically pull down the backup policy and start running backup tasks. This will allow our partners to aggressively go after these big environments.

Channelpro-SMB: What percentage of Linux necessary partners or target large environments

Urmston: Service We are about about 8,000 successful suppliers. And they followed our lead on the size of what the target market really looks like. But MSPs tend to be aggressive and they are pushing to grow their businesses, and eventually they start moving in some of these environments. To answer your question, it is not a large percentage. But now we attract the largest managed service providers. And they have been established with some difficulty from a deployment and configuration perspective due to the reliability we offer for backup. They were patient with us. But [their] expectation is that [we’re going to provide the tools they need to grow]. While most of these 8,000 MSP partners, it is a small percentage, maybe 10, 15 percent. But the hope is that we provide the biggest MSP with these tools, we will draw in the MSP who want to manage these large environments. We feel like we have jumped over some of the barriers that have been preventing us from being able to do so. But we have work to do, clearly

Channelpro-SMB :. Let's talk about how StorageCraft grew.

Brad Thomas On April 28, we cut the ribbon on our new headquarters in Draper, Utah. Currently, we employ approximately 190 to Draper. And then we have people scattered around the United States. Also in the last year and a half, we opened our new international headquarters in Cork, Ireland. We are about 25 there. And we have an office that we have not yet officially announced, but it is open and running in Japan. And then we have a fairly good presence in Australia too. Currently worldwide, we are about 250 employees.

We aim to have at least 400 in Utah in the next two to three years. Last year we were the 6th fastest growing company in the state. And if you're familiar with the high-tech industry in Utah right now, it's booming. In fact, one of the biggest challenges we have is that we will have to fight everybody for talent

Channelpro-SMB: .. Tell me about the cloud StorageCraft

Urmston: A lot of times people think of StorageCraft and think local backup and recovery. He was there about two years since we introduced StorageCraft Cloud Services offering people the ability to replicate data in the cloud StorageCraft. We have a data center in Utah and one in Atlanta which is a mirror site for our cloud. And when you talk about the storage capacity, I think now we're up to about 200, 300 terabytes of data in the cloud. We all have that storage.

Channelpro-SMB :. You also announced StorageCraft Professional Services in June with full or the request for consultation, design and / or implementation of backup and recovery services disaster

Urmston: The professional services increased a need with our MSP partners, who are trying to grow their businesses. In many cases, they do not have resources available to manage deployment. We increase the MSP team. If they are shorthanded and they need to get a little work, we have people who are available to go and provide these services and help them get the deployment, they could be short on certain resources.

Thomas we understand that for us to be successful, partners need to succeed.
