Both Microsoft Certified Professional and Computerworld report on a variation Conficker known as "Neeris." Neeris is an old virus that 4 years has resurfaced and is now behaving like a wannabe Conficker. It is believed that criminal hackers who created Conficker and Neeris are either the same person or work together, double associating community of computer security. 
Neeris began to appear March 31 in 1st April which, as we know, was meant to be the launch date of the next round of updates to Conficker.
Conficker and Neeris include both autorun and remote calling features that allow it to slip into external storage, including cameras, USB drives, external hard drives and other devices based on Memory. In addition, it is feared that the "call home" will eventually be virus update their capabilities to make data havoc and compromise.
What is troubling is that Microsoft has created a critical security update specifically for Conficker, marked the Patch MS08-067. Now Microsoft Certified Professional indicates that Neeris is able to "make holes 
in" this patch, indicating that the patch is no match for Neeris.
However, as noted in Computerworld, "Because of the similarities to Conficker, most of the mitigation measures that were mentioned also apply here. Be sure to install MS08-067 if you do 'have not done, and be careful to use only AutoPlay options you are familiar with, or consider disabling the Autorun altogether. "
