We all want safer homes, schools and workplaces, and part of feeling safe in the world today includes the ability to feel safe in line. To enhance security in cyberspace for people of all ages, a group of children and family-based organizations and well-known companies such as Facebook, Snapchat, LifeLock and Trend Micro have teamed up to Safer Internet Day US February 9, 2016. This is the third annual event celebrated in the United States, although Safer Internet Day is an awareness campaign that originated in Europe there are more than a decade and is celebrated around the world in over 100 countries. In addition to all educational activities and information available on the website of the Safer Internet Day in the United States, some of its partners and sponsors have also added their own personal items. One of them is Google, which provides users with an additional 2 GB of free storage space in their Google Drive accounts just to fill a security check.
How can I take advantage of this free storage offer?
There is a fairly simple process to complete a security check on your Google account. You can find it by going to a Google page while logged in and click on the circle in the upper right corner that contains either your photo or the first letter of your name. Click the blue button "My Account" appears and you will be redirected to a page where you can access all types of settings related to your Google Account. Log in and security menu, you will find the balance of security.
There is a short process that should only take a few minutes of your time. Google walks you through four pages, asking you to verify your account recovery information attached peripherals, checking account permissions, and information in two steps (if you have it enabled). Once you have gone through all the steps of the security check, Google will automatically add 2 GB of free storage to your account.
Safer Internet Day is a good reminder for everyone to think about online security
While it is certainly interesting to take advantage of Google's offering, this should not the only time you check your security settings - or the only online account, you can overall. Google says you can perform the security check as often as you like, and although not all websites offer such depth of passage, it is usually easy to find and look over your account settings for different sites and applications you use.
