STORServer Announces Availability of VMB v5

STORServer Announces Availability of VMB v5 -

manufacturer data backup solutions STORServer was the fifth version of Virtual Machine Backup (VMB) software. VMB v5 includes IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) for virtual environments (VE).

TSM for VE is designed to protect VMware vSphere virtual machines by transferring backup workloads to a centralized server and allows an almost instantaneous recovery. It provides a data protection without the need for traditional backup window.

STORServer VMB v5.0 provides the functionality of TSM for VE, including :.

  • level complete block and incremental backups based on VMware changed the tracking block (CBT)
  • virtual machine and recover individual files from both full backups and incremental.
  • Block level incremental backups of virtual machines running on non-Windows operating systems.
  • "forever incremental" backup strategy (available with TSM for VE version 6.4 or newer).
  • Restore the capacity of other TSM for VE user interfaces, including VMware vCenter plug-in client.
  • instant restores of disk volumes of the virtual machine using the TSM for VE Recovery Agent GUI.

Via GUI, STORServer VMB controls backups of VMware virtual environments. The software uses VMware vStorage API for controlling the movement of data directly to and from disk storage in TSM storage pools without the use of agents or VMware servers.

STORServer VMB v5.0 supports the use of the original version of TSM for VE (v6.3) and the more recently released TSM for VE v6.4, which adds backup strategy forever incremental and other features. The software continues to support the use of its technology previously available backup, Virtual Disk Development Kit VMware (VDDK). Users can configure VMB to use the technology for all backups or use a technology like the default technology and configure virtual machines to customers selected to use the other.
