Chris the main architect of the project, demolished a pre-existing garage (left in the picture) to create a space designated kitchen. "We had to dig down not hurt to get a level floor throughout, and set up a huge concrete retaining wall to support the garden next door, too," he says.

The architect had a very good working relationship with the owners. "They wanted it to be modern, but not too clinical or shiny, he said. "They loved the neutral colors and clean wood, and I wanted something subtle that different textures combined. A mixture of wood flooring, basalt paving and suspended classical Secto lamps brings to the extent of textures customers were after.

by opening a space that was previously a separate dining room, kitchen, garage and even garden, Chris created a joint spacious and bright room that could accommodate the whole family comfortably and allow parents to host dinners.

The family are required to have a clean look, smooth and clean in the kitchen, with flush finishes, doors without handles and lots of storage to hide all their cooking kit.
The carcasses are from Ikea, with MDF custom doors painted in a specially mixed gray. "The doors have a slight curve behind the top edge to enable them to open easily, Chris said. For cabinets and full length high, the retail finger pool runs vertically for easy access.
Behind the sink is a small bay window. "I paid attention to the position of the window level with the work plan so there is a generous area, facing south where the family can grow herbs," says Chris.

The kitchen area is bounded by a large island. "The owners wanted a nice large work area, bright, without devices. It is very sociable, and means that children can perch on the other side as the family cook together or alternatively, guests can gather around the island with a drink while the couple cook. "The work plan is Caesarstone in the snow.

"There are about 50 pieces of steel that hold it in place," says Chris. "We were quite adventurous in terms of structure, and worked closely with a structural engineer.

All lines in the room were thinking. This angle shows how the cooking apparatus is aligned with the skylight, which corresponds to the edge of the basalt paving.
Paving performs virtually transparent to the kitchen on the terrace. "We wanted to blur the distinction between inside and outside, and connect the deck to the interior," says Chris.

a pocket door separates the common kitchen dining lounge. "It is almost always open, with rooms flowing into each other, but if the owners want to have a quiet dinner, they can slide through to close the spaces, said Chris.

Much laundry circulating on the kitchen, accessible via a door just behind the kitchen island. The space is very similar to the kitchen, with neat, cabinets without handles providing plenty of additional storage space for when the family business. "They are passionate cooks and sometimes entertain many people, so it works very well have a separate laundry room, Chris said.

with such a large family, it was important that there was lots of storage. "They did not want to mess, Chris said. Another bank of cabinets full height stands opposite the coupling region and is home to everything from shoes to a hot water tank.

Light was a key element of the design, both natural and artificial. The kitchen is equipped with two skylights, and each is a small shelf with concealed LED lighting strip around the perimeter. "Roof lights tend to be rather dark and horrible night, but you can turn on and create a kind of halo on the glass," says Chris. "They light up even the masonry on the first floor.

Chris also took care of the hard landscaping, building a patio with paving basalt that extends halfway into the House. A large set of stairs leads to the garden. "We had to dig this area to create space for the terrace and then build steps down to the main lawn," he explains. A zinc projecting canopy shades the area of the dining room of the harsh direct sunlight. "It gives the feeling of a small cloister, creating a covered walkway when the doors are open, he said.
