Datto SIRIS Platform Updates BDR -
backup provider of disaster recovery based on Connecticut Norwalk, Datto Inc. began its annual partner conference DattoCon, underway in Nashville, Tenn., with the release of a major upgrade of its flagship SIRIS BDR offer. Named SIRIS 3, the new platform allows MSPs and their customers a wider range of implementation options.
"We find that customers, even within the same entity in the same environment, have different needs," said Datto technical marketing engineer Sue Mosovich.
therefore, SIRIS partners who want to run on virtual infrastructure can use Virtual SIRIS 3, which supports a wide range of major hypervisors, while the MSP who prefer a physical appliance can now choose between a base model and a new device entry named SIRIS 3 X1 offers up to 1TB of storage capacity. the X1 is also the BDR device first all-flash Datto.
"We finally got to the point where the flash was affordable enough to be used in a device like this, "said Mosovich.
Also starting today, all 3 SIRIS solutions and products in the ALTO range of small devices business of the company, come with this Datto called "Infinite retention Cloud." While previous generations of customers Datto business continuity solutions limited to periods or specific amounts, Infinite Cloud retention allows them to store data in the hosted infrastructure of Datto indefinitely, as long as they have a contract service with the company.
"We add this infinite cloud because of customer demand that had things like the regulatory requirements for HIPAA or SOX or anything like that [and] who needed several years of storage and preservation "says Mosovich.
other improvements in SIRIS 3 include agentless backup for systems running VMware hypervisors, support for Linux and Apple Mac endpoints, iSCSI diskless and restore functionality, and integrated NAS storage for data based on files. This last characteristic saving users from having to deploy a separate product called Datto to protect NAS file shares.
"Many of our customers really wanted this" said Mosovich. "You are not required to have a [Datto NAS] to actions, then a 3 SIRIS to perform backups. This feature is merged. "
In a further simplification of its range of products BDR, Datto has also merged its Genisis product with SIRIS. Genisis is a USB-based imaging solution that allows users to convert their own material in devices SIRIS. starting today, the new name is SIRIS 3 Imaged.
the Datto SIRIS 3 software comes standard with the purchase of a new service SIRIS 3. It will also be available as a free update for SIRIS 2 devices in the near future.
SIRIS 3 comes just weeks after the release of several all-SSD devices by eFolder BDR Inc., Atlanta, Ga. Unlike these products, SIRIS 3 uses 100 percent flash storage only on the low end SIRIS 3 X1.
"We continue to use traditional hard drives, as they are always much more competitive prices," says Mosovich. "Right now, I think we're really focused on ensuring that value for flash devices is the best, not just [doing] follow the leader in terms of getting the newest, flashiest, cutest thing there. "
SIRIS 3 is the latest new product Datto, officially published an aggressive cost solution for file sharing and synchronization named Datto training last month, following a launch smoothly in March. to stimulate demand for this product, Datto offered the first million subscribers to a free capacity terabyte for a year. According Mosovich, over 10,000 companies have taken advantage of this promotion so far.
Scheduled to reach the market shortly, meanwhile, is a new network router named Datto DNA that is designed to help channel pros keep business continuity and other cloud-based solutions in continuous contact with the Internet.
"We see more and more of our customers working with end users who adopt SaaS [and] adoption of web-based infrastructure to be always connected their needs," says Mosovich. Meeting this requirement, it continues, is a time of challenge for channel pros Datto DNA is designed to simplify.
Datto originally scheduled for release today Datto DNA DattoCon but delayed the launch pending completion of negotiations with a telecommunications partner that will allow it to fit the solution with built-in features of 4G failover LTE.
