Test results :? What Security Suite is the best in 2014 -
is entering the time of year when the Internet security software companies begin releasing new versions of their software for 2015. one of the ways consumers can measure the effectiveness of a security suite before buying is to look at the results of independent tests. Here in NextAdvisor, we use the results produced by AV-Comparatives, an independent, nonprofit testing organization that has been in the game since 2009. Even if we manage our own internal testing, it is useful to see how each product stacks up against the rest.
Which AV-Comparative results do we pay attention to?
AV-Comparative tests products on various levels. In our comments, we specifically look at Whole-Product Dynamic Protection Real World Test and Performance Testing . The first test measures how different program's security components work together to protect your computer. It is important to know because what's the point of purchase security software if it does not actually keep your computer safe? The second looks at how the program affects your computer while it runs in the background. Security software runs continuously, so that you do not want to end up with a program that will slow everything down.
Who stole the show?
This last series of tests showed a large number of software winning 3 out of 3 stars in both categories we watch.
BitDefender took second place in both categories, which is surprising considering it was also placed in the top three rankings for our own. BitDefender offers excellent protection to your PC with features that we like, such as Wallet, which stores your information securely, and parental control. Its unique feature set Autopilot above the competition. This feature allows BitDefender to take care of most security threats in the wings. You receive a notification pop-up when there is a serious threat warning.
Kaspersky also scored high in both categories. Kaspersky is one of our top choices for its interface and many features easy to use protection. Safe Money opens a secure browser window when you shop online or banking and the virtual keyboard will keep keyloggers to pin your personal information. Performance, Kaspersky is neck and neck with BitDefender in the results of AV-Comparatives.
What security suites fell short?
Unfortunately, not all tested programs have made an impressive effort.
McAfee and Trend Micro each rated only 1 of 3 stars in both categories. A note in the All-produces a dynamic test report said these programs were downgraded by both a star due to a high number of sites or wrongly blocked files. It can be as big a headache to have a security program that blocks Web sites that you know are safe because he is having a bad protection. In performance testing, McAfee and Trend Micro are neck-in-neck at the bottom of the test group - not beating another program. It is interesting to note that in our own internal tests of these two programs, we had similar results with Trend Micro, but not with McAfee.
