Add some fabric accents
That you have the skills to concoct a quilted oven mitt on a weekend or if you just have an eye for a pretty tea towel, beautiful fabric prints in the kitchen make the place feel instantly more welcoming.
Something everyone can have a go at a table runner like that. Simply buy or reuse a length of fabric that is half a meter or so longer than the length of your table (vintage bed sheets work wonders). Turn the iron and a double hem about 2cm around each edge and either machine or hand-stitch in place. You can even use a bondaweb band instead if you feel lazy -. It fuses together material when ironing in place under a damp cloth
Another idea is to frame your best cloth for the kitchen instead of printing. Many freelance illustrators create beautiful designs on napkins tea, so you get some art for a fraction of the price.

pot a personalized herb garden
Introducing more greens in your life can only be a good thing. You can make a DIY weekend decorating a wooden planter (available from garden centers and online) with a series of stamps letters or motifs and an ink pad pigment, such as Staz-On. You can get all this in your local craft store or online.
Stamp your herb names on everyone to keep everything in order, or go for a pleasure to say or custom declaration. This kind of thing makes a great gift house warming, too.

label your jars
it is so satisfying. Decant your bags, packs and bags of ingredients, toppings and sprinkles in mason jars and other storage glass, then get to work on some cute labels match.
You can buy ready-made sticky labels, or pick up a paper circular punch from a craft store that will give you the same tags to write about. Attach the paper in place with spray adhesive (well away from your food).

How about something more tactile? It is pleasantly ergonomic with leather handles on your kitchen cabinets - a much softer option than metal accessories, and warmer to the touch than porcelain or glass.
You can often screw your new fancy handles in existing holes when you delete your current fix each screw with a nut at the rear. If there is only one hole to remove an old button instead of a handle, you can fold the leather on a loop and the small tabs instead of handles mode. If there still has not any holes, you will need to drill. It may be better to practice on the cheap freestanding furniture or a piece of wood before you get to work on your cabinets fixed kitchen!
Make sure the strap of your leather is cut to a length that gives you ample holding and pulling the space, create your holes with a punch (making sure to place a piece of wood underneath scrap metal to protect your surface) and use deck screws to secure the handle in place.

string a little bunting
now do not mind. Bunting did not have the look of a school fair. Keep it simple, and in a solid color rather than pattern ditsy, and go for a similar color scheme to your kitchen - all white look shown here is much more modern than the usual floral flags.
All you need for this is a medium-weight cotton fabric, triangle cardboard model (or try semicircles for a rare scallop-edge finish), scissors and bunting ribbon readymade on which all the string together, using a needle and thread or a sewing machine.
If you're not keen on sewing, cut your triangles with pinking shears to prevent the fabric from fraying. Or opt for a tissue oilcloth instead of cotton, that will not fray even when you cut with scissors, regular straight-edge.

old apple crates are ripe for upcycling in all kinds of big storage. Try them as kitchen shelf units for your cookbooks and other pieces.
To clean for use in your kitchen, give them a little washing with trisodium phosphate and water solution, then spray generously with white vinegar, wipe and let dry.

Pack a punch with paint
for a striking change that will not break your weekend budget, get the paintings and smarten your cabinets.
You will need to remove all the handles and empty the contents before you get cracking. Wash your bottom cabinets and then give them a light sand, so that the surface paint sticks. End the primer using a coat paint, available from most specialists.
