Putting data protection solutions to test

Putting data protection solutions to test -

Companies may lose about $ 164,000 per hour due to IT downtime impact associated with company and employee productivity, according to a recent study by the Aberdeen Group. The risk of business interruption is significant pressure driving IT initiatives. Can you or your customers really afford? We all know that the protection of our data is important, but do we do in a way that makes it easy to recover and maintain the status quo? At Ceeva, we found a solution that makes it almost transparent process.

We have more than 150 clients in legal, non-profit, and manufacturing in and around Pittsburgh. For many years, we relied on various backup and disk-based recorders. Then we started working with a new client who was already using a recovery device disaster that offered offsite replication options. While our technicians have liked the concept behind the product, the support offered by the supplier was virtually nonexistent, which prevented us to help our customers. The support was unacceptable, so that our technicians started watching other competing products that offer a similar approach to backup and disaster recovery.

Through our research products, we evaluated four solutions based on the price, the solution's reputation, the type of hardware platform used, and how much support was available through the program seller channel. We have seen that many of these solutions were made up of hardware and software made by a variety of vendors. As there were many different components, there would still be a lot of variables to solve, which may result in a long time to restore data.

Ultimately, we decided that the seller with a camera on site, in addition to cloud backup, was key. We could immediately enter device data onsite disaster, rather than having to rely on the Internet that could go down, depending on the nature of the disaster.

One of the products we evaluated during our research was to Axcient, we discovered during an Internet search for recovery solutions Disaster cloud. What we liked was Axcient it offered a single integrated solution for backup, disaster recovery and business continuity, which includes a unit on site and offsite replication.

We read several reviews of the product by other users, attended webinars on the solution, and spoke in depth to a company representative. From these discussions, we decided that we had the solution we were looking for.

DATA REVIEW
When deciding on which data protection solution to offer our customers, there were several important characteristics that we looked for. We wanted a solution that:

  • was built from the ground with backup and business continuity in mind
  • give our customers the ability to select readers , files, applications, and they wanted to save; not reverse the incremental backups; and change the retention schedule at the request
  • Offered a Web-based interface from which we were able to centrally manage the devices of our customers

We currently have the solution deployed at 20 of our most demanding customers, whose businesses require solutions on-site business continuity and disaster recovery. These deployments protect almost 17 TB of data.

But there were other benefits as well. The Axcient partner program has provided certification training, support and marketing materials, and the company has given us a real sense that we work together as partners to meet the needs of our customers.

Ultimately, however, it does not matter how the partner program or the flexibility to offer a solution. What matters is that the product works properly disaster. We installed the solution at our customer locations for about a year when we decided to deploy for our own internal recovery needs in disaster and business continuity, replacing our backup system old band. Shortly after installation, our server hosting the file all you need to run our business crashed.

Supported by Axcient, we simply turned on its virtual machine and were operational in less than an hour. The backup has been so rapid that my service accounts receivable and office manager does not realize that the server is down. This rapid response was priceless for us and made us understand how different features of the solution really benefit our customers as well.
