The island boasts plenty of natural light from the large windows. "It was designed to be multi-tasking, but not so large that it cramps the room, James said. "We used curved edges on it, and other work plans, so there are no sharp corners to bump as you move around the room.

Appliances are hidden in cabinets to direct the play to feel like a living space, rather than a kitchen. The large storage alcove that contains a refrigerator and pantry. "One of these massive stainless steel refrigerators have just killed this space," says James. "I love these large refrigerators - they can look great in the right space - but it was not the place for one.
