New options for VAR and MSP cloud services continuity -
Saving data to the cloud for SMB customers is simple. Any organization can do it himself. Things get complicated when you start adding in the whole network, including virtualized servers.
The advent of the cloud is changing that, however. "The cloud makes it easier to back up the entire infrastructure for the client. It's a matter of leverage virtualization and retrieve an exact image in the same way," said Omar Torres, director of solutions virtualization and cloud computing to VeriStor Systems Inc. in Duluth, Georgia.
recent research conducted by the Ponemon Institute for DR and data protection vendor Acronis Inc. the recovery index Acronis disaster 2012 concludes that the adoption of virtual server among SMEs will increase by 21 percent this year. the index, however, also shows that 23 percent of SMEs do not have an offsite backup strategy, while 42 percent still use manual backup procedures such as tape. Obviously, there is an opportunity for VARs and MSPs to provide low-cost, DR simple, based on a cloud to the number of virtual servers increasingly.
Many DR cloud providers make it possible for almost all VARs to offer virtual server backup and recovery options without VAR become an expert in virtualization and cloud DR. These include suppliers such as VeriStor, eFolder, Axcient, and others. They offer a range of DR capabilities without having the VAR to build and maintain a platform for cloud DR. In general, the choices involve a combination of local backup and virtualized image residing in the cloud.
Atlanta-based eFolder Inc., for example, uses the Dell AppAssure software combined with cloud services to offer three VARs data protection products can provide customers. "They could store client data locally and then use cloud services to send images to a eFolder cloud," said Ted Hulsy, eFolder vice president of marketing. The VAR can then help the customer recover data locally or restore data and virtualized servers from an image stored in the eFolder continuity Cloud.
Axcient Inc. in Mountain View, California. Offers a hybrid cloud service based on the device on the premise of a backup client data and client applications, said Todd Scallan, vice president of Axcient, products. the device stores the backup on site, but also puts the image virtualized in the cloud. the whole system can be recovered directly from the camera or image in the cloud.
the new offers cloud-based are oriented VAR and MSP and price for SMBs. "We have a pricing and the packaging matrix from basic backup and recovery for as little as 250GB, "said Scallan. An intermediate level adds the local virtualization. There is also a cloud virtualization option.
Given the growing range of network backup providers cloud-based, any VAR or MSP can provide data protection for all virtualized infrastructures which corresponds to almost all customer needs, 250GB to 20TB. And more SMEs virtualize an increasing number of servers, save will be the next growth opportunity.
